A Career in Recruitment
| Amy Manifold - Consultant |
I arrived at Procura as an ambitious fresh faced graduate
with no experience in recruitment. I came in with two key objectives in mind, to
make as much money as possible and to progress quickly up the career ladder.
Although I was constantly told about the life of a recruiter
nothing could prepare me for the actual reality of the job. In the first four
weeks we were immersed in a full time training program where we were taught
the intricate details of how to be a great recruiter. The training, although
intense, was fantastic, we were encouraged to role play, talk to candidates,
debate and to make mistakes so we would learn!
When we approached the sales floor after finishing class room training, the hard reality of the
work load appeared. When the managers insisted that recruitment was a tough
business, they were completely true. I usually arrive in the office at 8am and
usually don't leave to 7pm. I learnt that in recruitment to be successful you
have to work the hours and always prepare yourself beforehand thoroughly for
the task ahead.
Within the working day picking up market knowledge was essential if you wanted to seem credible to your clients and to find all these
snippets of information being on the phone continuously was crucial! Luckily we
were mentored by senior consultants who were always on hand to ask questions
and to offer additional advice & support.
However although the hours are long and the job is tough, the
benefits of recruitment motivate you to work hard. The incentives offered are
fantastic and are always being tailored to what suits everyone in the office. E.g. quarterly
incentives (trip to Marbella and skiing), high commission structure, monthly
incentives (club lunch) are all on offer. The company is also really social
outside of work too, so if you’re moving to the city (like I did) every effort
is made to make you as comfortable as possible.
So after an intense couple of months of training, building
up my market and experiencing the highs and the lows of recruitment, all my
hard work paid off as I secured by first interim placement in December, let
there be many more!
If you are looking at a career at Procura, it is a great
place to work! However beforehand, think long and hard in regards to whether
you think you would be committed to the job and whether you have the resilient
qualities as it’s a rocky road to success, but very achievable and incredibly
satisfying!
